Reporting to the Utilities Director, the Water Treatment Plant Supervisor is responsible for performing complex technical and supervisory work in the operations, maintenance and laboratory analysis at the Water Treatment Plant, located a few miles east of Lilesville.

This Employee is responsible for:

§  Supervising Water Treatment Plant personnel.

§  Monitoring and adjusting the operation of water system pumps, motors and other equipment.

§  Accurately reading gauges, dials and other instruments that depict and/or record data.

§  Inspecting, servicing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of water system equipment, including pumps, valves, motors, filters and meters.

§  Keeping records and preparing necessary reports.

§  Collecting samples and assisting in conducting a variety of chemical and physical tests.

§  Recommending Treatment Plant policies and procedures.

§  Assigning shifts, work weeks, holiday coverage, etc.

§  Providing ongoing safety and injury prevention program.

§  Preparing performance evaluations of Treatment Plant operators.

§  Assisting in the preparation of annual Treatment Plant budget.

§  Assisting in disaster preparedness.

§  Performing other related duties as assigned.

 

Physical Requirements

 Employee must be able to perform the basic life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, fingering, grasping, talking, and hearing.  Employee must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  Must possess visual acuity necessary to inspect schematic drawings, prepare and analyze figures and data, operate a variety of light equipment, inspect moving parts, operate a computer terminal, and use measuring devices.

Desirable Education and Experience

The ideal candidate has graduated from an accredited community college with a degree in chemistry, environmental science or related field and has considerable water treatment experience, including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Required Certifications

Grade A Surface Water Certification and Grade 1 Physical Chemical Certification.
