Mission

Our mission in conjunction with the Division of Public Health is to safeguard life, promote human health and protect the environment through the practice of modern environmental health science, the use of technology, rules, and public education. We are a regulatory body that enforces the North Carolina General Statutes, including:

  • Drinking water
  • Food and lodging
  • On-site wastewater
  • Solid waste
  • Vectors

Environmental Health job responsibilities require our staff to work in the field the majority of the time. The Operation Hours for Environmental Health are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., each day county offices are open. Office hours are 8:30am to 9:30 each day.  Voice messages left are returned daily.
